Woodworking Frequently Asked Questions


Q: What is the daily schedule?

A: All workshops begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp and run till 5 or 6:00 p.m.. We ask that you arrive at 8:30 a.m. to give yourself time to park your car, check-in, pay for your lunch and have a few minutes to meet the other students before class begins.


Q: Do I need to bring lunch?

A: Lunch is available from our Homestead Farms Deli where we serve a variety of wholesome homemade meals.


Q: What skills do I need prior to taking a class?

A: Our foundational courses begin with workshops that assume that each student is a beginner. Subsequent more-advanced workshops generally have prerequisite workshops that prepare students for the more-advanced level workshops.


Q: Is there a cancellation fee?

A: If you cancel your registration, the following applies:

  1. If you cancel more than 30 days before the date of the class, we will refund your payment less an administrative fee based on the length of your class. (See schedule below.)

  2. If you cancel less than 30 days from the date of the class and if we are able to fill your place in the class, we will refund your payment less an administrative fee based on the length of your class. (See schedule below.)

  3. If you cancel less than 30 days from the date of the class, and we are unable to fill your place in the class, no refund will be given. However, we will allow you to transfer to another class, in which case a Transfer fee will be assessed based on the length of your class. (See schedule below.)

  4. If you cancel less than 5 days before the date of a class or fail to show up on the day of the class, NO REFUND or TRANSFER will be given.

We will consider illness or family emergencies to be legitimate exceptions to this policy.

Q: Do you ever reschedule or cancel a class?

A: While we try to adhere to the scheduled dates for each class, on occasion circumstances occur that necessitate our canceling or rescheduling the date of a class. If we are unable to reschedule a workshop to fit your schedule, we will gladly send you a full refund.


Q: Do I need to bring my own tools and material?

A: We provide all the necessary tools and equipment for our foundational and one-day workshops. We encourage students to bring their own hand tools if they prefer. For our more advanced furniture making classes, we will email you a recommended tools list that you will be asked to provide. Materials are included in the registration fee.


Q: What are the age limits?

A: Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll on his own. Children age 17 who are well-behaved and respectful of adults may register if one parent enrolls with them in the same workshop.


Q: How should I dress?

A: All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For the purpose of safety, no shorts or sandals please. We provide shop aprons for use during workshops.


Q: What about smoking and alcoholic beverages?

A: Thank you for honoring our community policy of no smoking or consumption of alcoholic beverages.


Q: Do you provide babysitting or child care?

A: We do not provide babysitting or child care services for parents who participate in workshops. No children will be allowed in the workshop area while a parent is taking a class.


Q: How can I find accommodations?

A: Students will find adequate overnight accommodations in local motels and hotels as well as bed and breakfasts. When you register for any of our classes, we will email you a current list of nearby motels and hotels that offer a discount to our students.
